SK Parents Proposals for the Education Council 24/10/2017:
- School (gym) sportswear – in addition to Gym clothes available in polyester, we ask that there is always also an alternative in cotton, for all year levels (reason: Polyester can cause allergies and not all people tolerate it well. If school insists on gym kits, it needs to provide both materials, not just one, as polyester might be unsuitable for some children for health reasons. At the moment, the company providing the gym clothes for EEB3 only has cotton shirts, and only for Maternelle levels. We need to have this option for all year groups and for all clothes that they sell)
- Vending machines selling sweets – The school should imperatively remove sweets selling machines as soon as possible and replace them by vending machines selling healthy snacks, fruits and more water (reason: Parents need to be the ones in control of how much sweets their kids can get during a regular school day)
- Secondary schedules – Pupils should never have schedules that give them classes during lunchtime – each child has a right to a lunch break (by law, all working people are entitled to lunch break, so this should be the same for children). Many Secondary kids (mostly SWALS, but perhaps also others) have as many as 9 classes per day, without any lunch break! In addition, they should obviously not replace these classes by early morning classes (before the school starts, period 0) either. Solutions therefore need to be found within standard school hours for all children.
